- 9×13-inch baking pan (greased) For setting the treats.
- Wax or parchment paper To press mixture evenly.
- Double boiler (or heatproof glass bowl + pot) For melting chocolate.
- Knife For cutting into bars.
Ingredients
For the Rice Krispies
- 3 tbsps butter
- 5 cups Jet-Puffed Cinnamon Bun marshmallows
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp maple essence
- ½ lb bacon cooked and crumbled into small pieces
- 6 cups Rice Krispie cereals
For the Topping
- 1 bag Hershey's special dark chocolate chips
Optional Topping
- 1 tsp sea salt
Instructions
For the Rice Krispies
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter and the marshmallows over low heat.
- Once melted, remove from the heat and add cinnamon, maple syrup, maple essence, and bacon bits. Stir until completely mixed.
- Then add the Rice Krispie cereals. Mix until all is well-incorporated.
- Then pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch pan or a cookie sheet and spread it evenly with a waxed paper.
- Refrigerate to cool and set.
For the Chocolate Topping
- Put the chocolate chips into a double boiler (or a glass bowl that fits snugly over your pot) filled with water.
- Bring to a simmer on medium heat. Once the chocolate starts melting, stir constantly with a rubber spatula until all the chocolate is melted and has a smooth consistency.
- Remove from the heat and pour the chocolate over the cooled Rice Krispies and spread evenly with a spatula.
- Allow the chocolate to cool a bit, then sprinkle lightly with sea salt if desired.
- Put the treats back into the fridge to set completely.
- Once the chocolate has solidified, cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
Customizations:
- Without Bacon: Leave out the bacon for a vegetarian version.
- Chocolate Swap: Try milk or white chocolate instead of dark for a sweeter twist.
- Flavor Boost: Add ½ tsp vanilla extract to the marshmallow mix for extra depth.
Storage Tips:
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- For best texture, bring to room temperature before serving.
Serving Tips:
- Slice into squares for casual snacking or into thinner bars for party platters.
- Sprinkle extra sea salt over the chocolate before it sets for added crunch.
Cooking Tips:
- Press the mixture gently into the pan—don’t compact it too much or the bars may turn hard.
- Cook the bacon until very crispy; soft bacon will affect the texture.
